Candidate Statement

Initially from the north of England, I have lived in Massachusetts since 2001 and been a US citizen since 2012. We move to Hopkinton in mid 2024 and in the hope to contribute to our community am standing for the vacant position on the town Board of Health.

I am a physician, recognized as an orthopedic surgeon specializing in trauma but with a wide experience working in a number of medical systems both in the USA and overseas. Trained in the UK, I have now worked in Massachusetts for almost 25 years. I have also taught locally, nationally and internationally and been involved in significant medical administrative work including major reorganizations. With my international experience, I have a real understanding of the effects of clinical and non- clinical issues on health, locally regionally and beyond. Working with Partners in Health, I was one of the primary responders to the Haitian earthquake in 2010 and have worked in South America and Africa as well as the UK and USA.

After medical school in Leeds, Yorkshire, I completed surgical training in Leeds and Oxford. I was a UK NHS consultant for 9 years before being invited to move to the USA as Chief of the Orthopeadic trauma service at Massachusetts General Hospital and was there for 19 years. I subsequently worked for UMASS and continue to work at St.Elizabeth’s Medical center in Brighton and Mercy Medical center in Springfield.

I have a wide medical experience and have contributed professionally in many ways, I would like to contribute to our community and hope to do so in Hopkinton.
