Candidate Statement
My name is Maria Elyse Barrett Mihajloski, Those who know me know me as Elyse, and I am running for a seat on the Hopkinton Planning Board. I am a hard worker, problem solver, and have a history of involvement with the town and volunteer groups in town. As our town continues to grow and change, I believe our board and committee members need to reflect that too.
My husband Todor and I have lived in Hopkinton for 4 years. We live in Downtown Hopkinton with our two children, a 4-year-old son, and a 2-year-old daughter. We very much enjoy the trails and parks around town. We would love to see more thoughtful well-planned growth in the downtown area and are anxiously excited for the corridor project to finish!
I graduated from University of Miami in Psychology and Neuroscience. Before having children, I worked at the University of Miami Hospital doing research in Psychiatry and Biochemistry. I am currently a stay-at-home mom with my two children and am very involved in different volunteer groups and committees around town. I am currently on the Zoning Advisory Committee (ZAC), and I serve as a board member for both eHop and the Hopkinton Moms Group.
I believe it is important to have a planning board member who has a slightly different view about the town. As a parent of young children, I can bring this valuable perspective and complement the knowledge and skill sets of the current board members.
I believe my skills of research, critical thinking, problem solving skills and knowledge of various groups in town is a great compliment to the other board members. Being a member of eHop I try to stay up to date on town issues and having served on ZAC I feel I have an adequate background of town bylaws, and how committees are run in town.
Candidate Statement
My name is Anne Beauchamp. I am running as a candidate for re-election to the Hopkinton Public Library Board of Trustees, and would appreciate your vote.
I believe public libraries say a lot about a community and I am proud of how our library represents Hopkinton. I have always depended heavily on my local library; libraries have enriched every aspect and stage of my life. When I moved to Hopkinton in 2013, our library was ‘the little engine that could,’ being much bigger in soul than in physical presence. Thanks to our neighbors’ hard work and voters’ approval, we have a library facility that can embody our library’s mission to “inspire exploration, discovery, and engagement as we enrich and strengthen the social network of our diverse community.” I am excited for the opportunity to continue my work with the Board and the Library Director for the benefit of the community.
I graduated from Smith College and the University of Kansas. At Wellesley Public Schools, I lead equity-focused strategic use of educational data. With a husband and three daughters ages 6, 11, and 14, my main volunteerism has been leading my older daughters’ Girl Scout troops and supporting the troops’ works of community action. I have also been a classroom support volunteer and established and ran an accessible Santa visit event in town.
I would be honored to receive your vote of support in the Town of Hopkinton Annual Election on Monday, May 20, 2024.
Candidate Statement
My name is John Cardillo and I’m running for Town Constable.
I have lived in Hopkinton for the past twenty-five years and have been involved in many activities in town. I have coached softball for my daughter Kimberly and was assistant Little League baseball coach for my son Jason. (Jason went on to play baseball for Hopkinton High School.) I was also on the Hopkinton Little League Board as equipment manager. I was involved with the Hopkinton High School (HHS) cheerleading (of which Kimberly was a part) as their unofficial photographer and part time fundraiser. The HHS Cheerleaders where extremely successful winning local and state competitions, and a national title in Kim’s junior year. Her senior year Kim was elected Team Captain. For the last 4.5 years I have been a photographer for the Hopkinton Independent, an experience I’ve enjoyed immensely! I also just celebrated my tenth year as a volunteer at the Boston Marathon here in Hopkinton (in the corrals).
Both my children have benefited from their education here in Hopkinton. Jason went on to the University of Vermont and Kimberly went to the University of South Carolina. Jason received a degree in Mechanical Engineering, as did Kimberly, at the University of South Carolina, and Kimberly went on received a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Both now live and work in Colorado. My wife and I loved raising our children in Hopkinton because of the opportunities it afforded them, and the multitude of activities, provided by the town, which kept them both engaged and involved.
I decided to retire after 30 years in high tech, shortly after the passing of my wife, Cindy, to cancer, in October 2017. At that time, I might have chosen to leave Hopkinton to be closer to my children in Colorado. But after much thought and soul searching, I decided to stay! This is my home!
Currently I serve on three town committees: the Cultural Council, the Woodville Historic Commission, and the Veterans’ Celebration Committee.
Hopkinton is an inviting, vibrant community that continues to grow both in population and diversity, as well as opportunity. Please allow me the opportunity to give back to our community as your Constable.

Candidate Statement
Last fall I was asked to fill an unexpired term for a Trustee of the Hopkinton Library and now am seeking a full three year term through this year’s election.
Hopkinton represents my third library Trustee position served over the past twenty years. I served six years with the Norfolk Library in Norfolk, CT from 2003-2009 and another six years with the Scoville Memorial Library in Salisbury, CT from 2011-2017. In my work with all three libraries I gained a strong appreciation for how they serve as a key cultural center in their respective communities. I had read during the early days of the internet, Kindle, and other technological means of viewing books and publications that libraries would soon face extinction but nothing could have been further from the truth.
Not only has circulation continued to grow with avid increasing demand for printed books but library programs involved with art, literature, music, and public information continually play a transformative learning platform for citizens of all ages. Hopkinton has a beautiful library building and a friendly professional staff that works hard to maximize its circulation offerings and new programmatic initiatives designed to make the library a true learning center.
I feel my experience and interest in maintaining the highest standards for this special institution will aid in the important role of the Library Board of Trustees.

I am Ravi Dasari and I’m running for the open seat on the Parks and Recreation Commission. Hopkinton has been my home for over 8 years. I love it here!
I would love to have your support for my service on the Commission.
I was involved in setting up the turf pitches for Cricket with the help of Hopkinton Parks and Recreation and this led to the growth of Cricket as one of the popular sports in Hopkinton.
The Parks and Recreation Commission provides incredible programs and classes to our citizens. Having started the Hopkinton Cricket Club, I think I have the leadership experience and responsibility to help improve the Commission and directly connect with the citizens of Hopkinton.
Preservation of indoor and outdoor sports are something I feel passionate about and have been involved in before, so I want to develop and enhance the existing spaces that are used in our community.
I am committed to support the future development of community programs and ongoing operations, and promote the mission of the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Hopkinton is filled with natural, historical, cultural, artistic, and recreational resources that cultivate outstanding experiences and learning for all people.
It would be an honor to serve our community and hope to have your support this election.
Candidate Statement
Hello, for those of you who don’t know me, I’m Connor B. Degan and I am running for re-election as your Town Clerk. I have had the pleasure of serving two successful terms and I am confident that I will continue to respond to the needs of the position with the same excitement that I did on day one. I grew up here in Hopkinton and have watched the Town grow from a small suburb of Boston into a vibrant and diverse community that gains international attention once a year for the Boston Marathon. It is our opportunity to show the world through culture, civic engagement, and a wonderful business community that we are truly living our marathon motto, “it all starts here!”
As a graduate of Hopkinton High School, I went on to Roger Williams University where I obtained my degree in Political Science. Throughout college, I served as staff for a number of political campaigns before deciding I wanted to pursue public service myself. I proceeded to volunteer in the Hopkinton Clerk’s Office for just shy of a year before my predecessor announced her retirement. It was then that I had the opportunity to run for office and the privilege of being elected to serve as your Town Clerk.
The Town Clerk’s Office has many duties including administration of all elections, issuing certain licenses and permits, preservation of the Town’s historic records, ensuring government transparency as the Records Access Officer, codification of our bylaws and charter, just to name a few. The Clerk is also referred to by many as the unofficial “Face of Town Hall” to encourage civic engagement in the community and educate the next generation on the importance of the same. During my tenure I have supported a local Girl Scout project utilizing a mock election to help students learn about the voting process and cast their votes for a “Buddy Bench” for Hopkins School. I have also worked with scout leaders in Town to educate scouts on the importance of community service. I have enjoyed collaborating with eHop to show groups in the Town how they can support the community, I have successfully implemented large scale early voting and safe in-person voting during a global pandemic, navigated re-precincting the Town in a manner that is fair for all residents, and so much more. Thanks to the shared interest within the community, I have even been able to further my passion for voting rights by testifying on progressive election reform on Beacon Hill and signing a letter of support for the passage of the Democracy Restoration Act in DC, that aims to restore voting rights to ex-convicts who have served their sentence and are still deprived of their rights in many states.
Though 2020 impacted us all, I ended it on a wonderfully positive note by marrying the love of my life at a small private ceremony here in town at St John the Evangelist Parish, where I have been a parishioner since moving to town as a child, and an active volunteer for years. I am excited about the future of Hopkinton. I look forward to growing my family here and to continue to be an active member in the community – both personally and professionally.I am so fortunate to be your elected representative for the past two terms. I humbly request your vote on May 16th so I can have the honor to continue my service to the Town of Hopkinton and to the community that makes it the wonderful place it is.
Candidate Statement
My name is Nancy Drawe (mostly known by my nickname Punky) and I am a candidate for a seat on the Hopkinton Housing Authority Board. I currently serve as an appointed member to finish a term of a resigned former member.
I was born in Hopkinton in 1954, but my family moved to Framingham after two years. We then came back in 1980 and a few years later, I moved back to Framingham, only to return to Hopkinton in 1991 to Davis Road, where my parents also lived. My two younger brothers and their families also live in Hopkinton.
I really wanted to become involved in the community, so I started out volunteering at the Hopkinton Senior Center as a computer tutor, a member of The Volunteer Advisory Committee and lunch hostess. I also wrote weekly columns about the center in The Hopkinton Independent and Hopkinton Crier, as well as on hopnews.com. I also reported activities from the center on hcam.tv stations weekly news program. I was also a member of the Veteran’s Celebration Committee for many years and I volunteered on the School Council at Center School. Two years ago, I was appointed as a member of the Senior Center’s Council on Aging Board. I love being part of this community and have made many long lasting friendships over the years.
I attended Emerson College in Boston, majoring in Creative Writing. I worked as a pre-school/daycare teacher in Framingham, then as a private nanny until I retired.
As a resident of Hopkinton Housing myself, I have attended most of the monthly board meetings over the last 20 years and have first hand experience in what our needs are. I was previously Vice President of the Brampton Circle Tenants Organization, where our job was to serve as liaisons to report the tenants concerns to the Housing Director and Housing Board members.
Now as a member of the Housing Authority Board, I am able to provide a direct voice and be an active advocate for the other residents. If elected, I will continue to work with the other board members as well as the Housing Director to maintain and improve Hopkinton Senior Housing.
Thank you for your support!
Candidate Statement
My name is Mary Duggan and I am a candidate for the position of
Commissioners of Trust Funds.
My husband, Richard, and I have lived in Hopkinton since 1985. We
saw Hopkinton as an ideal town in which to raise our children. Our two sons and our daughter all attended Hopkinton schools. When we moved to town, the population was fewer than 8 thousand people, and traffic was minimal. While those things have changed significantly over the years, Hopkinton still has that small-town appeal for me.
In terms of my professional career, I graduated from college with a
degree in elementary education. With teaching positions scarce at that time, I began working for New England Telephone within a year of graduation. I worked there in various managerial positions as New
England Telephone ultimately evolved into Verizon. After 36 years of
service, I retired from Verizon and began to look for volunteer
opportunities. Almost immediately, I found Project Just Because, a
wonderful organization where I have volunteered for the last twelve years.
One of my passions is dog rescue. In addition to owning two rescue
dogs, I was a volunteer for four years with Last Hope K9 Rescue. Like most Hopkinton residents, I always look forward to the Boston Marathon. I served as a Boston Marathon volunteer for several
years, doing whatever was needed, from stuffing envelopes initially to barrier set up and clothing pick-up throughout town.
In February of 2019, I was given the opportunity to serve out the
remaining term of a former Commissioner of Trust Funds. During that time, I assumed the role of secretary and learned a great deal about the process for management of funds. I found this experience to be both interesting and rewarding, as it allowed me, in some small way, to give back to the town. In June of 2020, I was elected to a three year term on the commission and I currently serve as chair. I would appreciate the opportunity to serve the town again as a member of this board if I am re-elected in May.
Candidate Statement
Hello Hopkinton Neighbors,
My name is Lesley Ficarri, and I am running for re-election to the Board of Assessors for a 3-year term.
The Board of Assessors’ key responsibilities are to support the Assessing Department in valuing real estate and personal property, considering tax abatements and exemptions, and providing data and analysis needed to set the annual tax rate in accordance with applicable Massachusetts laws.
Being on this Board has been a great opportunity to serve our community. When I first joined the Board I integrated quickly and learned about how revenue is generated for the Town of Hopkinton through our taxes. I leveraged my background and skills as a human resources executive to make decisions considering legal frameworks and data along with the impact on our residents and businesses. Sound judgement, high ethics and the ability to maintain confidentiality guided us during each meeting.
My husband, Pete, and I grew up near Pittsburgh, PA. We moved to Massachusetts in 1998 and to Hopkinton in 2001 when we built our house. We previously volunteered for the town. I served on the Personnel Committee, and Pete was on the Zoning Board of Appeals and Zoning Advisory Committee. We have made great friends here and very much enjoy living in Hopkinton.
Please join me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/LesleyforHopkinton/.
I hope to continue serving you on the Board of Assessors, and I respectfully ask for your vote on Monday, May 20th.

Hello Hopkinton!
I am running for re-election to Parks and Rec again! It has been a challenging few years, but our commission really stepped up and made sure there were lots of learning and fun still to be had. We changed and adapted our programs to accommodate the unprecedented times. Once COVID restrictions lessened, we jumped right back into our regular programming, plus added some interesting new classes and activities, such as Archery and Puzzle Palooza among many others.
I was involved in The Sandy Beach Ad Hoc committee which has made many improvements to Sandy Beach that will make it a safer and more enjoyable local gem.
The Dog Park is completed and has been very successful and well attended. The people and dogs I meet there enjoy and have been so appreciative of the park, and we will continue to make improvements on it, like adding another pavilion.
The Summer Concert Series obviously had to be cancelled in 2020, but the last couple of summers have been fantastic. I added a bunch of diverse bands and a variety of music, including the Bollywood Band Din Check, which was very fun and very popular! This summer the local favorites are coming back, as well as Din Check, but I have added a few new interesting bands, including The Good Times Banjo Band that is sure to be a hoot. I hope you will come check out the great free music on our beautiful Town Common!
I will continue to work hard for this town and hope to have your support this election.
Don’t forget to apply for your early vote-by-mail or absentee ballots!
Candidate Statement
I’m running for the Planning Board in Hopkinton because I want to help our town grow in the right way. I’ve worked in multiple startups, dealing with everything from Cloud storage to data management. Before that, I learned a lot about politics in Illinois, working to solve local issues by listening to people and not just arguing over party labels.
I believe in Hopkinton. We’ve got a great history and a bright future. I want to make sure we grow without losing what makes our town special. This means keeping our schools top-notch, protecting our green spaces, and making sure growth doesn’t push people out of their homes.
I’ve always been involved in the community, from being a Scout to helping out in political campaigns. These experiences taught me how important it is to listen and work together. I see some big challenges ahead, like making sure housing is affordable and bringing more businesses to town. But I’ve got ideas and the energy to tackle them.
What sets me apart is my ability to talk to anybody and work out solutions. I’m not scared to knock on doors or make calls to hear what you think. That’s how I plan to find out what matters most to you and make those things my priority on the Planning Board.
I’m excited about this opportunity and ready to work hard for all of us in Hopkinton. Together, we can make sure our town stays a great place to live, work, and play.
Candidate Statement
Hi. I’m Sue Kurys and I’m running for re-election to the Commissioners of Trust Funds. The Commissioners oversee the disbursement of funds from Trusts bequeathed to the Town. Their principal duty is to ensure that the funds are used in accordance with the wishes of Hopkinton’s generous benefactors.
In addition to my experience from serving as a Commissioner over the last three years, my other service to the Town and community makes me well-qualified for this role. I am Chair of the Hopkinton Senior and Disabled Tax Relief. My service on local nonprofit boards has always been about ensuring donations and grants are used to further each organization’s mission.
I’ve held leadership roles in strategic planning, marketing and finance throughout my business career. My education includes an MBA from Stanford with a certificate in Public and Nonprofit Management and additional coursework in fundraising and philanthropy at BU.
I’ve lived in Hopkinton for over 20 years. The Trusts overseen by the Commissioners embody core values of Hopkinton’s past, present and future – education, community and the beauty of our Town. It would be an honor to oversee the use of these funds for the benefit of all residents. I respectfully ask for your vote for Commissioner of Trust Funds on May 16, 2022.
Candidate Statement
My name is Mary Jo LaFreniere and I am running for re-election to the Select Board.
In Hopkinton, we face many challenges as we struggle to accommodate our town’s growth. That’s why I believe that a strong financial and municipal background is so important for a Select Board candidate. In addition to serving on the Select Board, I served for many years on the Board of Assessors. I am a former Massachusetts Accredited Assessor and have served as a professional assessor for the towns of Holliston and Plainville. Here in Hopkinton, I have served as a Commissioner of Trust Funds and on the Tax Relief Committee. I have also had the opportunity to advocate for the town through my service on the Marathon Committee. At the State level, I was District Director for Senator David Magnani.
As a Select Board member, I have been honored to serve as liaison to the Board of Health, Parks & Recreation, Board of Assessors, Sustainable Green Committee, Cemetery Commission, Council on Aging, Tax Relief Committee, and Marathon Committee. As liaison to the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority, I was delighted to help bring a wheelchair accessible bus route to the Hopkinton Senior Center.
If reelected I will focus on:
- Successfully completing the Downtown Corridor Project and attracting new business to the downtown area
- Continuing to attract business and industry to South Street and other commercial areas
- Keeping our school rankings high amidst the challenges of a pandemic
- Preserving Hopkinton’s natural resources with a special focus on climate action
- Encouraging the use of our unique open spaces
- Promoting the wonderful programs and resources at the Senior Center
- Helping us to return to a full Marathon each spring!
Our family moved to Hopkinton when our boys were three years old and three months old. Over the years I came to love our friendly town with its strong school system and beautiful natural environment. Now as the town grows, I hope to continue to serve all of our residents, old and new alike, and foster a sense of community so that we can all share the same wonderful Hopkinton experience that my family and I have enjoyed.
I respectfully ask for your vote on Monday, May 16, 2022.
Candidate Statement
My name is Lucia Lopez and I am running for the 3-year position on the Planning Board. My desire to serve on the Planning Board stems from my interest in housing as well as a desire to give back to our community.
As a stay-at-home mom to two young children, I understand the needs of young families in our community. Having been fortunate enough to have served on the Hopkinton Housing Authority and to currently serve on the Tax Relief Committee and Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board, I have also seen the struggles that our seniors and low-income residents face. I firmly believe that Hopkinton belongs to all of its residents, and we can work together to solve our current problems and strengthen our community.
I have a bachelor’s degree in planning and a master’s degree in education with an emphasis on policy, organization, and leadership studies. In my career, I have worked as a diversity program coordinator in a research organization and in college residential life. Since moving to Hopkinton over a decade ago, I have also managed our multi-family home. My educational and career experiences have provided me with the skills to analyze difficult problems and always consider how potential solutions will affect the people involved.
I will bring my passion for housing, problem solving, and community to the Planning Board, and I ask for your support on May 20, 2024.
Candidate Statement
My name is Beth Ann Malloy and I am running for the one-year seat on Hopkinton Housing Authority. I was appointed to the Housing Authority last year when a seat became available, and I hope to be able to continue.
I moved to Hopkinton in 1995, joining my husband Mike who bought his first house in town in 1991. We have found Hopkinton to be a very compassionate, safe, and caring community and we have enjoyed both living and working here. After our kids were in full day school I went to work for Hopkinton Public Schools for 9 years, working primarily with our intensive needs students. For the past 12 years I have been employed by the Michael Lisnow Respite Center. I am inspired by my friends there. My husband is a software engineer and has been with Dell/EMC for 25 years. We raised both our children in Hopkinton. Dillon is currently a mechanic at Westboro Toyota. Colleen is a paralegal at a law firm in Framingham.
Our family was very involved in the scout organizations in Hopkinton. I was an Assistant Cub Master for Pack 97. I lead both the girls and boys in our town through scouts. While with the scouts I purchased a program called “Lost in the Woods” from search and rescue. I wrote the script and taught the program to both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts for many years. I also spearheaded a program we called ‘Hopkinton Helping Hands’. We coupled a Cub Scout Den with an elder citizen in town, offering yard clean ups and friendship. My goal was to bring young families and our elder community together.
Camp Sunshine in Casco ME is an amazing place where I have volunteered for 12 years. Camp Sunshine provides both respite and fun to children with life threatening illnesses and their families. I have generally volunteered for several sessions per year. Volunteering keeps my feet and spirit grounded. I spent many years volunteering with Project Just Because, Serenity House, and CAA and school drama programs. Our family has enjoyed dog rescue by fostering 19 pups, some of whom found homes in town.
I served on the Affordable Housing Fund Committee for 8 years. During this time we worked on adding to our inventory. Working with the Planning Board, we asked that future developers provide the town with units in lieu of cash payouts. I hope to continue to bring my organizational skills, strength, and knowledge to my seat on the Hopkinton Housing Authority. And I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Hopkinton.
Candidate Statement
My name is Kyla McSweeney and I am running for a seat on the Select Board.
My husband James and I moved to Hopkinton in 2007 and are raising our children here. Quinn is 14 and in the 8th grade at Hopkinton Middle School, and Sierra is 11 and in the 5th grade at Hopkins.
I am a Director in the State Department of Early Education and Care, where I manage contracts and large grant programs requiring close attention to fiscal and regulatory matters. Formerly I was Director of the Children’s Corner at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. I also have a law degree from Suffolk University and have worked as a public interest attorney.
I have been involved in the town in various capacities in the 16 years I have lived here. I began my service on the Center School Council and then served on the Marathon School Council. I served on the committees in order to support the building of Marathon School and more recently the new Elmwood School. In 2021, I was elected to the Hopkinton Cemetery Commission and served as Secretary, which has familiarized me with the workings of town government. I have also been a Girl Scout leader in town for the past 6 years.
I believe that my fiscal and budgetary experience will be helpful in town budget matters. We have embarked on several ambitious projects in the past years such as the Downtown Corridor Project, a water remediation project, the new Marathon School and now additions to Hopkins and a new Elmwood School. These have tapped our resources, and many residents feel stretched by increasing tax rates. I believe we need to consider our planning with this in mind and think innovatively about how we can increase our revenues outside of raising residential tax rates.
My experience in law and policy has provided me with the ability to listen to different viewpoints and bring people together. Recent events and matters in town have resulted in a division of perspectives. I hope to be able to listen to diverse opinions of Hopkinton citizens and be respectful of the range of perspectives that residents have.
Having served in the role of Director many times and under different circumstances, I have experience attracting and retaining committed and professional employees, and I appreciate the need to do so. I believe we need to continue to seek strategies to attract high caliber candidates, support our town employees, and retain exceptional talent in all areas including public safety.
I feel that our town has much to be proud of including excellent schools, beautiful recreation areas, and a many committed volunteers. I hope to bring my professional experience and history of civic engagement to the Select Board, strengthening our community and applying a fresh perspective to the challenges ahead.
I respectfully ask for your vote on Monday, May 20 at the Middle School.
Candidate Statement
I am Peter M. Mimmo, a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, and I am running for Hopkinton Select Board. I am running for Select Board because I care about our town, and I’m concerned about the challenges facing our community. We all know these challenges, and they are far reaching. They range from a challenging budget to the quality of our water, and to the difficult issues concerning our Police Department. I believe I have the experience and temperament to help navigate our Town through these difficult issues.
Hopkinton has been my home since 2015. My wife Diane and our sons Andrew and Owen moved here from Northbridge where we lived for 14 years. As a Northbridge resident, I was appointed to the Town’s Personnel Board and served for many years. I also was privileged to serve on a Town Manager search committee, and our collaboration and hard work resulted in successfully hiring a Town Manager who worked for Northbridge for 10 years.
After moving to Hopkinton, I sought opportunities to serve my community. In 2022, I was privileged to be elected to our Board of Assessors, and I thank the voters for putting their trust in me. As a Board Member, I have worked with my colleagues and our Town’s professional staff to assure that property in our Town is fairly assessed, and to fairly evaluate applications for tax abatements, and approve applications for tax exemptions for our veterans, seniors, and those experiencing financial hardship. I have seen firsthand the professionalism and openness of our staff when engaged with residential taxpayers.
When I am not serving my community, I am a busy lawyer. I am an attorney with nearly 20 years of experience working for the Commonwealth as a civil litigator. I have worked in health and human services, public safety, and I am currently working for a state agency responsible for enforcing our state’s civil rights laws where I work toward the overarching goal of eradicating unlawful discrimination in employment, businesses open to the public, and in housing. I have dedicated my career to public service, and all of my professional accomplishments have centered around advancing the public interest for all the citizens of our Commonwealth.
Most of my work has been as a labor and employment counsel. In this role, I have conducted multiple investigations into employee misconduct, and defended the decisions of management and have held those employees accountable for their gross misconduct. Alternatively, when management makes a mistake, which does and will always occur, as counsel I would work with representatives of management, labor and the aggrieved employee to bring the matter to a fair resolution.
I have represented the Commonwealth in negotiating collective bargaining agreements with our state’s largest labor unions and resolved countless labor disputes. In this role, I have worked hard to build rapport with union leaders.
In my experience, whether as a municipal volunteer or as an attorney for our Commonwealth, I have come to appreciate some important values that I think are indispensable when serving the public trust. Transparency, honesty and following through on promises made were key to successfully navigating difficult, and oftentimes contentious disputes. Respect given was always respect earned, and I believe these principles apply with equal force to municipal government.
All of my work in public service has been rewarding, and I hope to continue to that service as a member of our Select Board.
I respectfully ask for your vote on Monday, May 20, 2024.

School Committee Candidate Statement
Greetings,
I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce myself and provide information on my background. My name is Adam R. Munroe. I am a candidate for the Hopkinton School Committee.
I have been a resident of Hopkinton for many years and my family’s history within the town goes back decades. My wife Heather and our three children truly enjoy calling Hopkinton our home. Our youngest child is currently a student in the Hopkinton school system. He enjoys being a student and often brings home exciting and interesting news from school.
I find Hopkinton provides a unique sense of community. We share wonderful schools, amazing events, and unparalleled community engagement with our public library, parks, and recreation opportunities. These advantages, and many more, are surpassed only by the overwhelming sense of dedication and service of those who have committed themselves to ensuring Hopkinton remains the safe and comfortable town we call home.
In the spirit of community service, I ask for the opportunity to serve on our School Committee. While Hopkinton is a great town, we also face many challenges. Fiscal acumen, economic equity, and transparency are core values that inspire my desire to serve on the committee. The residents of Hopkinton should expect a school committee that is engaged, responsible, and ensures that the core values Hopkinton residents are represented in the education of its students.
I currently serve as a member of Hopkinton’s Marathon Committee, where over the past several years I have fostered lasting relationships with many officials and others, which has allowed me to demonstrate teamwork, collaboration, and trust. Additionally, I serve on the Hopkinton Board of Assessors and help to ensure the tax base is executed in a fair and equitable manner in line with state regulations. I believe this steadfast oversight ensures that all residents in Hopkinton can feel confident that their interests are being handled in a transparent and professional manner.
My background has always been in service to others. I am a former paramedic with over 20 years of service. I continued my service journey to become a registered nurse, first obtaining my Associate degree, then Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Currently I am completing a PhD candidacy with a focus in Nursing Education.
My current roles include being department chair of a nursing program at a local community college and a registered nurse in a busy local emergency department. I have also served as a visiting lecturer in the Nursing Department at Framingham State University. All of these require fastidious attention to detail, an understanding of a variety of perspectives, an in-depth understanding of analytic data, and ability to apply critical thinking to evolving situations. My responsibilities as the chair of the nursing department include evaluating current educational practices for the nursing program and making recommendations for evidence-based changes and modifications to support sound educational practices while also embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion from across the community. Additionally, developing budgets, reviewing policies, developing and executing strategic plans, collaborating with administrators, faculty, staff, and students are responsibilities I feel will transfer well to the school committee.
I sincerely feel my proven skills, dedication to community, compassionate caring, and core values make me a great candidate for your consideration.
Thank you for your support.

I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce myself and provide some information on my background. My name is Adam R. Munroe. I am a candidate for re-election to the Town of Hopkinton Board of Assessors.
I have been a resident of Hopkinton for thirteen years and my family’s history within the town goes back decades. My wife Heather, and three children truly enjoy calling Hopkinton our home.
I find Hopkinton provides a unique sense of community. Wonderful schools, amazing events, unparalleled community engagement including our public library, parks, and recreation opportunities. These, and many more, are surpassed by the overwhelming sense of dedication and service of those who have committed themselves to ensuring Hopkinton remains the safe and comfortable town we call home.
In the spirit of community service I ask for the opportunity to continue to serve on our Board of Assessors. While Hopkinton is a great town, we also face many challenges. Fiscal responsibility, economic equality, and transparency are core values that inspire my work on the board.
I currently serve as a member of Hopkinton’s Marathon Committee where over the past several years have fostered lasting relationships with many officials and others which have allowed me to demonstrate teamwork, collaboration, and trust.
My background has always been in service to others. I am a former paramedic with over 20 years of service. I continued my service journey to become a registered nurse. First obtaining my Associate degree, then Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees. Currently I am completing a PhD candidacy with a focus in Nursing Education. My current roles include being a registered nurse in a busy local emergency department as well as being a visiting lecturer in the Nursing Department at Framingham State University. While you may wonder how this experience relates to becoming a member of the Board of Assessors; let me explain. All of these require fastidious attention to detail, an understanding of a variety of perspectives, an in-depth understanding of analytic data, and ability to apply critical thinking to evolving situations.
I sincerely feel my proven skills, dedication to community, compassionate caring, and core values make me a great candidate for your consideration.
Thank you for your support.

Candidate Statement
My name is Amanda Murphy (formerly Robichaud) and I am a candidate for Commissioners of Trust Funds.
I have lived in Hopkinton for the last 10 years with my 2 children. I have been an active volunteer in town. I was the Secretary of Hopkinton Little League for 3 years, overseeing the operations of the organization which served over 700 baseball and softball players. I have also been on the Executive Board of the Hopkinton Parent Teacher Organization for 7 years, first serving as the Assistant Treasurer, and most recently as the current Treasurer. I am currently a weekly volunteer at Project Just Because.
I spent 20 years working for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Assurance practice and then Learning & Development, across 3 offices, Boston, Helsinki, and Florham Park, NJ. I currently work part-time as an accountant/bookkeeper and accounting tutor.
Now that my children are older (a freshman in college and a freshman in high school), I would like to be more involved in the town as a whole. I feel my work and prior volunteer experience in accounting/bookkeeping prepares me well to be a Commissioner of Trust Funds.
I ask for your vote on May 21st.
Candidate Statement
My name is Amy O’Donnell and I am running for re-election to the Parks and Recreation Commission. My husband Ed and I moved to Hopkinton almost 12 years ago with our four boys. From the beginning, we have been warmly embraced by the people of Hopkinton and continue to appreciate the overwhelming sense of home and community. I’ve had the pleasure to become actively involved in Hopkinton Lacrosse, the Integrated Preschool School Council, and the Religious Education Program at St. John’s Church. Being a part of these wonderful local organizations has only reinforced my desire to help more.
Our four boys are very active in the many activities and sports in town. A great number of these activities are programs sponsored by Parks and Recreation at our recreation fields and facilities around Hopkinton. I would like to continue to use my passion to help the Commission by focusing my attention on these youth sports and programs to maintain their high quality for years to come. I feel my background as an engineer with a focus on efficiency and process improvement can be an asset on the Commission.
I welcome your thoughts and look forward to the opportunity to continue this collaboration with the families of Hopkinton.
Candidate Statement
My name is Mary Jo Ondrechen and I am running for the Board of Health in Hopkinton. My decision to run was catalyzed by my concern about contaminants in the town water supply. I believe that my experience and expertise can help to contribute to solutions that ensure a safe, clean water supply. We also need to plan so that we are prepared to respond quickly and effectively to the next public health emergency. I am also concerned about the lingering mental health effects of the pandemic, particularly on our young people.
I earned a doctoral degree in Chemistry from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Currently I serve as Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Northeastern University in Boston. The research group that I lead now consists of seven doctoral students, three Masters students, five undergraduates, and a Visiting Faculty Researcher from the University of Illinois Chicago. Our current and recent research endeavors span a variety of biomedical problems, including COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
Previously I have consulted for the Department of Energy on technologies to clean up toxic waste in the environment. I have played active roles in the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) to evaluate innovative technologies for the remediation of environmental contaminants and to promote the regulatory acceptance of innovative technologies that prove to be effective.
I ask for your vote on Monday May 20th at the Hopkinton Middle School.
Candidate Statement
Hi, I’m Susan Porter, and I am running as a candidate for reelection to the Hopkinton Public Library Board of Trustees, where I am currently the Chairperson. I would appreciate your consideration in the Town of Hopkinton Annual Election this May.
This has been a trying time for all of us, and the library has certainly not been exempt. Besides the Covid restrictions on hours and patron access, we have had many personnel changes, including a new Director.
Because these changes, I feel that the Board of Trustees needs to maintain consistency and assist the new director, Nanci Hill, in familiarizing herself with Hopkinton and the Hopkinton Public Library. I and the Board look forward to working with her and are excited to see what she will bring to our library. To that end, I am running for reelection.
I have lived in Hopkinton for 46 years. My husband Michael and I raised our daughter Alexis here, and she now lives in town with her family.
I graduated from Boston University and worked as a Surgical Intensive Care Nurse. I retired several years ago from my position as a Health Care Consultant.
Candidate Statement
It has been my privilege to have served on the Library Board of Trustees, first as a member appointed by the Select Board on the first public board and several times as an elected official. During those terms I advocated for the library and worked with other board members and directors to establish library policies and assure that the library remains a bastion of free speech and is a welcoming place for all citizens of our community.
For the last several years I have been active in the Friends of the Library, helping to raise funds to cover items and programs that the town does not budget for. I look forward to serving the community as a Trustee once again and ask for your support on election day.

My name is Amy Ritterbusch and I am running for a second term on the Hopkinton Select Board. I am a hard worker, I do my research and I have a long history of involvement with the town and schools. This is a critical time for Hopkinton due to the rapid growth and development we continue to experience, and the resulting budget challenges. I don’t have all the answers, but I am working hard to keep the public informed after each meeting by recording Actions Taken videos with HCAM and publishing written Actions Taken on eHop. During the campaign process I am reaching out to residents from all parts of town, lifelong residents and newcomers.
My husband Tim and I have lived in Hopkinton for 19 years. We own a modest 140-year old home in the center of Hopkinton and enjoy walking in the downtown area as well as on the trails. We have three children, one high-schooler (Grade 12) who walks to school, as well as two HHS graduates (2018 and 2020). I have a BA from UMass Amherst and currently work as a Software & Web Analyst for the Wellesley Public School district. I have held many volunteer roles in town over the years. At the moment I am serving as chair of the Select Board and as a member of the Hopkinton Center Historic District Commission. I have previously served on the Planning Board, the Growth Study Committee and the Design Review Board. I am a founding member of eHop and have served as an eHop board member since 2007. I also volunteer with Girl Scout Troop 65040, although this will be my last year as my daughter is graduating.
It is important to have Select Board members who are knowledgeable, informed and actively engaged with the issues and the residents. My communications background, technical and research skills are a good compliment to the skill sets of the other board members. I work hard to stay on top of the issues in town and I bring that knowledge to the Select Board. I respectfully ask for your vote on Monday, May 15, 2023.
Candidate Statement
I’m Ellen Rutter. I’m running for Hopkinton Town Moderator. As your Moderator, I’ll bring a fresh perspective to Town Meeting. Moderator responsibilities include making sure that the Meeting is run according to our laws and Town Charter.
Hopkinton residents make key decisions at Town Meeting — including ratifying our annual ~$100M budget. It is an important forum for residents, committees and employees to help govern Hopkinton!
At Town Meeting in May 2018, I was the Deputy Town Moderator and in February 2019 I served as Acting Town Moderator for our Special Town Meeting. I’ve gotten good feedback on my approach at both meetings.
Throughout my career in marketing, meeting facilitation has been one of my primary responsibilities. In my current job, I facilitate complex meetings for a pharma company. I’ve been regularly recognized for effectively engaging all stakeholders, navigating complex discussions and getting to fair outcomes efficiently. I’m excited to bringing my experience and skills to the Town Moderator role.
I’ve raised my two kids in Hopkinton, where since 2000 we’ve appreciated the fabulous education our schools offer and enjoyed many town programs. My community engagement has included volunteering on my neighborhood board, serving on the board at my church and participating in local politics.
As Hopkinton grows, we need to ensure that all Hopkinton voices are heard. We need to manage our meetings effectively and efficiently. We need to keep Hopkinton moving forward.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and support on May 16, 2022.
Candidate Statement
Hello! My name is Susan Stephenson and I am a candidate for election to the Hopkinton School Committee. I just moved to Hopkinton from Pennsylvania in September, but I have made many visits here over the past 25+ years. I decided to settle here because I like the friendly, small-town atmosphere. Additionally, my values align more closely with those of the people here than in my former home in Western PA. I am a retired English teacher and have devoted my working life to education. I want to use my knowledge and experience in education to give back to my new community.
Having served as a teacher for 36 years, I am passionate about quality education. I taught in the Seneca Valley School District in PA, which was always ranked in the top 10 districts in the state. I am aware of the budgetary challenges facing the Hopkinton school system. If I am elected to the School Committee, my commitment will be to keep Hopkinton schools top-ranked. It will not be easy to maintain quality education in the face of budgetary constraints, but I am not afraid of tough problems and will always keep the needs of all students my top priority.
In my previous school district I served as department chair and also as a union leader. Having worked with School Board members and the superintendent’s office, I have a deep understanding about school needs, about the interests of all the parties, and about how schools are governed.
I am opposed to censorship and to political interference in school curricula. While this may not be a problem currently in Massachusetts, we need to be watchful of the situation on the national level.
On a personal note, my hobbies are gardening, woodworking, taking an art class, and playing with my golden retriever Wallace.
I pledge to serve the needs of all students in the very best way possible and to stand up for continued top-quality education in Hopkinton. I respectfully ask for your vote on Monday May 15, 2023.
Candidate Statement
My name is Jamie Wronka. I am running for the Hopkinton School Committee. Like many families, my husband and I moved to Hopkinton in 2012 for the excellent school district. Maintaining the integrity and quality of our schools while balancing the importance of fiscal responsibility is a vital challenge that affects all residents of Hopkinton.
I have been an occupational therapist for nearly 20 years. In 2022 I moved from clinical care into a visiting professor role at Worcester State University. My experience and skills developed in clinical and educator settings are essential for a school committee member.
My passion that inspired me to run for School Committee has been ignited over the past year as Vice Chair of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council. One of my children receives support via an IEP. I walk in the shoes of a special education parent, who works full time and has two other children (and two dogs). I hope to empower every student and every family to thrive within the public education guaranteed to every child in our country. I know the challenges all families face navigating our systems – and the importance of strong policies, close and thoughtful budget decisions, and supervision of the leader of our schools are inarguably vital as we navigate this period of tremendous population growth in town.
I have over a decade of service to the town of Hopkinton, serving on committees since 2013 (Conservation Commission, Trail Coordination and Management Committee, and Upper Charles Trail Committee). I have also been an active volunteer with the Hopkinton Mom’s Group, which I encourage young families to consider joining as a support system, and the Hopkinton Parent Teacher Organization – I currently serve as VP of Membership and co-VP at Elmwood School. I understand the time commitment serving on School Committee requires. I was one of the organizers supporting the Yes vote for the Elmwood School replacement and volunteered to babysit children in the Middle School Library during that special town meeting (thank you to everyone who came out!).
I have a deeply vested interest in public education. I attended public schools from first grade through graduate school. My mother was a public elementary school nurse. Growing up in NJ, my school was very diverse and my education experience was richer for it. I am thrilled to see increasing diversity in Hopkinton, giving my children and the whole community a better lens through which to view the world.
My campaign is rooted in my desire to continue to serve Hopkinton. It is rooted in my experience as a professional and as a parent of three young children.
I ask for your support on May 20th, 2024. Together, we will address the challenges facing our schools. We will work towards our future Hopkinton where every student thrives.

Hello, my name is Matthew Wronka, and I am a 2023 candidate for Hopkinton’s Planning Board.
Our town continues to be blessed with a growing community. How we develop the town to manage this growth will have a lasting impact: protecting our wonderful trails and green space, and providing new opportunities for recreation, all while encouraging commercial growth to broaden our tax base.
My wife and I moved to Hopkinton ten years ago, and last year I joined the Planning Board when a vacancy opened. In addition to the challenges the board is facing with respect to zoning changes mandated statewide, I’m proud of the initiatives the board has chosen to tackle this year, in particular continuing to improve the town’s walkability: connecting parts of town–neighborhoods, parks, and other resources–with safe pedestrian corridors. Improved connectivity helps bring our broad community closer, while improving utilization of–and access to–existing investments such as parks and the town’s network of trails.
We look forward to discussing the opportunities we’re proposing, as well as feedback on where other opportunities exist for improving connectivity, during our public comment session on March 21st.
I look forward to continuing work with the board on this and other issues, and I ask for your vote on May 15th.
